We have a commitment towards the society of being a responsible entity and we fulfill the same by conducting business in a responsible way. An organization can sustain in the long run only by creating value for their customers in the long term, by monitoring intangible performances in terms of social and ecological scenarios and by paying attention to their stakeholders.
Education
The vitality of education in our lives cannot be taken lightly and the more one shares, the better it is for everyone. Education plays an important role in shaping an individual’s career and is undoubtedly, both socially & personally essential. However, it is not absolutely possible for institutes to reach out to people residing in the rural parts of our country.
Better education carves a person to be more civilized and productive towards the society and Pudumjee is making sure of the same happening on its end by being actively involved with charitable trusts all around India. The main areas our group is involved in are providing education facilities, improving the existing facilities for the same & help build the infrastructure for education and in the medical sector as well, especially in the rural parts of India.
Environment
Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) Pulp
As a part and a contributor to the ecological environment, Pudumjee conforms to its responsibilities by adopting Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) pulp for the production of its paper products.
ECF bleaching, based on chlorine dioxide, is the superior technological choice for sustainable pulp and paper manufacturing. During the early days, the bleaching process for chemical wood pulp would be done using chlorine gas as the main component of the process. With that came the negative elements of the same where such measure of bleaching would discharge huge amount of dioxin and furan chemicals to the watercourses by the pulp mills. To cater to this issue, ECF was developed which turned out to be one of the most viable alternatives, wherein element chlorine was replaced by chlorine dioxide to arrest the discharge of organochlorine compounds into the environment.
Recycled paper as raw material
Another one of the measures towards the environment is the usage of recycled paper as raw material for the manufacturing of our paper and paper products.
As a responsible citizen of the society, it is essential to realize the negative impacts of deforestation over our ecological surroundings. Using recycled paper not only curbs deforestation but also saves on the thermal power required to produce virgin pulp from scratch with reduced water consumption.
Additionally, recycled paper helps reduce emissions of poisonous gases into our environment such as CO2. Since, the used paper can be collected from adjacent to the recycling plants, it reduces the transportation as well as the emissions of CO2 in our ecological system.
Certified pulp as raw material
Whether one is an individual or a business, a constructive contribution to the natural reserves, is always a matter of concern. Pudumjee contributes their share of environmental protection by buying certified pulp to use as the raw material for manufacturing of paper at our mills.
Chain of Custody certification verifies that certified material is identified or kept segregated from non-certified or non-controlled material through this chain. Chain of Custody certification allows companies to label their products, which in turn enables consumers to identify and choose products that support responsible forest management, [Ref. 1].
By using certified pulp, Pudumjee is proud that the group provides its incentives for responsible forestry and helps save the natural reserves for our future generations.
